PROJECT

Objectives

During the project implementation phase from September 2008 to August 2011, alternative propulsion technologies for transport on the basis of renewable energies shall be implemented by local users from the wider Alpine region following three main objectives:

1.) A variety of technological solutions (electric engines in light vehicles, cars and busses, biofuel compliant combustion engines, compressed air technology etc.) will be applied in regions with differing resource potentials (hydroelectric power, biogas, pure plant oil etc.);

2.) The applied technical solutions will be analysed in order to elaborate proposals for harmonising technical standards especially regarding recharging, respectively refuelling infrastructure on an international level;

3.) The transnational exchange of know-how shall promote the competitiveness of the Alpine region in a fast growing market of environmentally friendly transport technologies. Through the use of new technologies of propulsion based on renewable energies the project will foster independency from energy imports, job creation in (rural) regions, and dynamics and com-petitiveness of local small scale enterprises.

In partnership with experts from research and private business the participating public authorities and transport companies will be enabled to test in pilot projects different available propulsion technologies in varying local applications. Those solutions will be analysed according to applicability, cost efficiency, local environmental footprint, ecological and economical effects.
